Our Story

In 2019, our pastor and his family  began praying about what could be done and how he could encourage others to church plant in our major cities. In March of 2021, God called our pastor to plant City Baptist Church inside the city limits of Atlanta. City Baptist Church was started by Grace Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia.

The Historic Butler Street Baptist Church in the Fourth Ward community opened their doors for us to rent their facilities for Sunday School, Sunday Morning and Evening Services as well as Midweek Prayer Meetings on Wednesday Night. They also allowed our church to use a nursery and classroom space for our children. To show our appreciation for their kindness, City Baptist Church renovated their lower level classroom and bathroom spaces and fixed some lighting and outdoor grounds issues. We cannot thank them enough for their kindness!

City Baptist Church began holding weekly meetings on November 7, 2021 with 28 people in attendance. We were blessed to start a children's Sunday School and a nursery that first week. During these first few months, the Lord knit our first few members together in a special way. Every Saturday, our church was out talking to our city about the Lord Jesus Christ. We had a series of Gospel Days, beginning in January, in which churches from all over the nation came to help evangelize our neighborhoods.

On March 13, 2022, we held our Grand Opening Service. We also opened our charter that Sunday and officially organized as City Baptist Church.

After much prayer, the Lord led us to a more permanent facility at 425 10th Street NW, right across from the Georgia Tech campus in the Home Park neighborhood. We moved into our new facility November 13, 2022. We have continued to welcome visitors from our community each week and preach their need of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our people are excited to reach Atlanta for Christ!
